Vacation at home!

As the summer approaches we all need vacations.

So Apryl and I will be going away and visiting a few countries in Central and South America. We are extremely excited because we are looking forward to seeing and meeting fellow Black Latinos and getting the opportunity to get immersed in the culture.

It will be a wonderful experience to be within our Latino culture that is so raw and shows evident signs of our African origins. We will take tons of pics and promise a blog piece with a detailed description on our experience. We plan on doing this every year as a way of learning and building our Movement as it is one from a North American perspective and becoming intune with Black Latinos across the world!

To Speak or not to speak that is the question!

Not knowing spanish is such an obstacle.

People make it seem as those it is a matter of national security. And what kills me is if u have one person doing a lot of our people and accomplishing so much but does not speak spanish and another person who just speaks spanish but doesn't do much for our communities it is almost as if the spanish speaking person is more "latino" or intune with being latino because they speak spanish.

I am baffled by this... How could this be, the ignornance is so fustrating... Really it is...

Knowing the language although it is an advantage to some it is not what determines u or your "latino-ness". It is stupid to think people are measured based off of that. What makes a person that speaks spanish more latino then someone who does not?

A person once tried to speak to me in spanish and although I understood I couldnt quite compose a sentence and the line I frequently get that just tickles my fancy is ooohhhh I thought u were latino-----SORRY!
