Dating

Is dating the same for all races?

I have yet to date out side of my race but sometimes I wonder if there are huge differences across cultures. Do Asian people tend to stick together because of their commonality? Or are they simply sticking to their comfort zone?
Now personally I have dated Black and Hispanic men but have never dated any other race. I don't know if its more of a personal choice or if I simply attract these men in particular.

Lately I have come to realize that I am loving Black men more and more and know that when I settle down it will be with one, but as I think about what it is that makes me gravitate so strongly towards one race I think about how the rest of the world follows a similar pattern.

Look around NYC to find perfect examples of this.
There are several specific areas that only certain races stick to, this includes living as well as socializing. But of course there are few which are stepping out of the box, hence the birth of us Black Latinas.

But still the question...what makes us choose who we choose? Is it a personal choice on a case by case basis? Or are people really aware of what race they are interested in and will not date outside of it?

I got a chuckle when you said you've dated black and Hispanic men. I myself have dated black and Hispanic women, i.e., a Cuban and a Puerto Rican who happened to be black ;-)

I think we're very aware. I often wonder how different my views would be if I were from NY. Being from the good ol D (Detroit) segregation is very really. As far as numbers go the city is 86% African-American (how much of that include Blacks of other ethnicities - idk) and the state is 70% white. I'm a grad student and some of my students have never seen a black professor (shoot, I think that could be across the board if you're from MI). One student was event offended that I was the teaching assistant because they said I was "African." I'm sure that sentiment has been felt but gone unspoken by some other students. At the same time, I know some students sincerely don't care and they're fine with it. Aside from socializing with people who look like you, I think there's a cultural component as well. I think Blacks and Latinos in general are a more familial group. They have a more welcoming component to them, where some other groups rely on individualism, others rely on a community unit. So, if notice someone doesn't share that same cultural sentiment with me, it's off-putting. And since I think that many US-Midwest based cultural lines cross racial lines, whether people are more racially segregated vs. culturally segregated is a good question. I've dated across the board, but mostly African-American men.
