Vacation Revelations

It was so amazing to visit 4 countries and see such a strong presence of Black Latinos.

From Honduras to Belize, Mexico and even the Cayman Islands to see people of color that from the naked eye u would think were "black" or "African" but were Latino gave me such a fuzzy feeling inside.

Coming from the states as I have stated so many times before is a different situation and atmosphere in regards to Black Latinos. I can see it is no surprise and pretty much part of everyday life in our neighboring continents of Central and South America. Where as in the U.S it is still new, unique and at times presents stigmas.

That is the basis of why the Black Latina Movement pushes in the U.S.
Most social and society ideas come from entertainment and in "Hollywood" u don't see much Black Latinos or roles that tell our double identity. Some call it a Double Minority while I call it a Double Blessing. And unfortunately Latino stations and networks do it too.

But it is one step at a time.

It will take time but if I can even scratch the surface in the states I feel a sense of accomplishment already!

I do want to say that I am happy to be looked at as a 'black' woman b/c I know that most of my ancestors were stolen from the continent of Africa...but I just want to not be scoffed at when my black face starts to speak Spanish or when I wear my "Afro Latina" shirt. That's all...ya'll stole me from my origins, plopped my people e'rywhere and now I should not embrace the cultures both sides of my family have known for centuries?? Well, thanks to you, Black Latina Movement, we may be able to make some more headway in this regard! <3 you!
